Effective Internet Research, EIR in short. 16 weeks had just pass in just a flash of my eye. Frankly speaking, I did not know that EIR was a CDS at first. I thought that it was a core subject and it will be a super boring subject. At the beinging, Effecive Internet Research I was thinking why do we need to thake this subject when we already know how to use Google to search for things already. However, I always recall back to the first lesson I had for EIR, it was just like yesterday.
As i was still trying to adapt to polytechnic life, I am somehow a little lost of finding my way to my class and therefore I was late. I felt a little shaky as I thought that i will definitly be maked as late. But, guess what, I was shocked when i entered the computer lab. I saw a warm, bright smile looking at me and her first sentence to me was,"Come, take a sit. Log into your facebook and add me." At a second I was thinking "Oh my god ! Is she serious about it?". The next second I then realise, she is my tutor, Ms Farida.
Ms Farida makes EIR lesson a enjoyable and carefree one. To the outsiders, they might be thinking that my class is not paying attention but actually every practical we did, we were doing our portfolio too. It is just that we did not notice it. I will describe my EIR lesson as a unopened present. It might looks boring at the outside but if I never open the present, I will never know how wonderful the content inside the present will be.
My EIR lesson days were also like that, Ms Farida will be the one who give you presents and surprises. She always come into class with a smile. She knows that my class do care about our grade a lot so she will always leave time for us to counsult her. She a wonderful tutor who won't not mind even if she will need to repeat herself many time in order to let her students understand the topic.
I will say my EIR lessons were like a unopened present as the present might contain either a bomb, or it will be a box full of surprises. But if i never open it up I will never know that EIR will be a present that contain full of enjoyment and surprises.
Although, the days for my EIR lesson had come to an end, I will always remember how enjoyable the lesson were and how unexpected our work could be finished. Most importantly is that I am happy to learn that by research, it does not only mean that to search through Google but also the school's invisible web and how to evaluate whether if a website is good and useful. Last but not least Thank you Ms Farida for giving me the presents.

An AWESOME site-visit to iExperience
14. July.2012- It is a sunny day, an awesome day for a fieldtrip. My class C317 went on a site visit to the iExperience organised by the Info-communications Development Authority of Singapore (IDA). Throught this site visit, we had learnt a lot of the improving technology such as Cloud computing, IPTV and many more. We were warmly welcomed by the guide. My class were lead as a whole and all of us had fun. So read on and allow me to bring you throught the awesomeness.
First we come to a infocomm heritage corner which is shown above, In this corner, many ancient technology such as the first computer, the type writer and telephones were displayed here.

A picture of the personal computer.
This is a timeline of how the technology had evolve from 1940s to the 2010, where the start of Next Gen NBN rollout.
The picture above shows the Next Gen NBN. We were taught by the guid that the Next Gen NBN is a ultra-high speed fibre network. This network is being used nationwide in Singapore. We were updated that by this year, 2012, majority, almost all the building will be wired up with the Next Gen NBN. All thanks to the ultra high speed fibre network, our nation were powered by info-communication and this will allow faster communicaton too.
Up next, we were brought to a side of the exhibition which was designed like a living room with a television, a table lamp and a curtain. we were showed that by using the IPTV, we were be able to use it to view internet computer and also to access to many services more conveniently.
We by using the IPTV, we were also able to control the table lamp and curtain with just a remote control like a phone or a tablet pc.
Then, we were lead to a classroom like corner where we were showed that how technology could be brought into the classroom to increase the effectiveness of studying. The picture above shows one of the computer like table where student could use this to view there homeworks and teaching slides. This programme works both sides, the teachers will be able to monitor what their student were doing and also stop them immediately if they were not focusing.
This picture above show a interactive catalogue which is already being used in some shopping malls in Korea. With this interactive catalogue, users will be able to try out items such as cosmetics, shirts just before deciding to purchase them. I think personally think that this catalogue will come in handy as it will let the user to test out their items and confirmed it before buying. This will be very convenient.
Last but not least, we were shown how the technology bring us convenienceeven in purchasing our daily groceries. Just by istalling an application into out smart phones, we will be able to access to a grocery catalogue easily. User will just need to simply touch on the picture of the item and the full detail of the selected item will be shown in the phone. If the ser is allergy to any of a particular food, the application will immediately identifiy and note the user. I think that this is a very wonderful technology being invented.
Through this site-visit i had learnt that how technology can bring us convenience to our daily lives. However, if we do not appreciate all these technology, one day they will be gone. Throught this visit, I had also leant that how will the future technology will be like and how important technology could be in our daily lives. In my opion, the trip was awesome, fun, educational and informative. Overall it was a great trip.
Let me end off with a group photo :D

the basic of ME!
HELLO!!! Amanda, that's my name. I am currently a student in Temasek Polytechnic, Diploma in Interactive Media Informatics(IMI).
My favourite hobby is WATCHING CARTOONS! I enjoy watching all sorts of cartoons, although some people might think that cartoons are only for children but it is a kind of way for me to keep myself happy. Garfields, Spongebob Squarepants, Phineas and Ferb are some of my favourite cartoons. Cartoons enlightens my day. :D

I will describe myself as a ICE. Ice is an object that is cold when is first taken out from the freezer but as time pass, it will slowly melt and blend into the surrounding. I am a person who don't really talk to a person at the first sight. I look very angry when i don't smile and is because of this reason, many people might think that I am a arrogant, proud person. In fact, I am warm inside, and I am willing to lend you a helping hand and listening ear whenever u need me.
